- YOYOW — You Own Your Own Words: We want names and/or organizational names to appear along with information items published on our website.
- Talk about ideas: Thomas Jefferson is the patron saint of this website not just because he was so influential in American history, but because of his belief in give-and-take in discussing ideas. Ideas matter.
- Advocacy is better than the party line or some dogma: Do not tell us what you are against. Tell us what you are for. If you disagree with a policy then outline your own. If something is a ‘fact’ then include a footnote as to the source.
- Commentary on published items: Think and respond factually. Do not make it a race to the bottom. Never wrestle with a pig. You both get dirty, and the pig likes it.
- Always unacceptable: Would you use that language in front of your mother or grandmother? Not here either. Anything which comments on individuals or groups through distortion, or hints at intimidation, coercion, and violence is not acceptable. Name calling or label bombing lives with the pigs.
Guidelines are always subjective. We endorse freedom of expression, diversity of perspective, and tolerance of dissent to achieve the informed and responsible decision making fundamental to a civil society.
